"No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world." - Robin Williams
10 Year NFL veteran, Super Bowl Champ, and fitness maniac Steve Weatherford got himself a pair of custom-engraved Core Flytes. Steve had a big decision to make: what words to put on his new training tools. What would be a tough decision for most was easy for Steve. He wanted just two words. Two words that mean a lot to him and help motivate him by reminding him what he -- and all of us -- have control over... and what we are all capable of.
Steve selected the words "Attitude" and "Effort" to be engraved on his Core Flytes. He explains in the above video that his grandfather told him when he was twelve years old that the two things we can control in life are our attitude and our effort. Steve says we can all achieve anything we want in life with positive attitude and a strong work ethic. Being positive and working hard has certainly been effective for Steve.
Let's take a closer look at these two words:
Attitude is derived from the Italian word "attitudine" which means "fitness" or "posture." Merriam-Webster defines attitude as "a feeling or way of thinking that affects a person's behavior." We must think before we can do. If we have the right attitude, we can accomplish great things.
Effort comes from the Latin phrase "ex-fortis," meaning "out-strong." Webster defines effort as "a serious attempt to do something." Our positive attitude does not lead to action unless we are serious and deliberate about taking action.
